"Infant" baptism is available for children aged birth- to 6-years-old. [Children aged 7-years-old and older need to go through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults for Children (RCIA/C) process.] We ask that parents be registered and active at Assumption no less than three months prior to the date of baptism.
Classes are offered throughout the year to prepare parents and godparents for infant baptisms. A baptism date cannot be set until a class has been attended and the registration forms have been completed and submitted, including a copy of the child's birth certificate.NOTE: parents must registered for a class at least one week prior to the class date; and the class must be taken at least one month prior to the baptism date.
One 3 1/2-hour class is offered every other month in English & Spanish. Parents need to contact the parish at least two months prior to the baptism to allow time to attend the class (good for two years) and submit all required paperwork. Pre-registration for classes is required.
Infant baptisms are scheduled for one weekend each month and held "outside" of Mass--on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in English and Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. in Spanish. The exceptions to this are:
- December--no baptisms (Advent);
- January--held during Mass on Baptism of the Lord weekend;
- March--no baptisms (Lent); and
- June--held during Mass the weekend closest to the Solemnity of the Nativity of John the Baptist.
