Glorifying the Lord With Our Lives

Confirmation (Youth)

Assumption and Sacred Heart's Confirmation for High School youth process follows the Seattle Archdiocese's policy of a two-year preparation program, with the Sacrament being received by juniors and seniors in the second year of the program.

Year One Candidates (primarily sophomores) focus on their personal role in serving the mission of the Catholic Church through involvement in LifeTeen and other faith-forming activities, as well as serving the Church's mission to share the Good News.

Year Two Candidates continue to engage in the faith through service, but will also have two options for immediate preparation of the sacrament. Details on those options will be forthcoming.

Some Expectations for Year One Candidates include:

  • Weekly participation in the Sunday (Saturday evening) Mass;
  • Continual formation in the faith and in community through LifeTeen on Sundays and monthly Teen Bible Study gatherings, as well serving in one or more roles in the Sunday liturgy;
  • Attendance at Youth Convention Jan. 26-27 (site TBD);
  • One check-in meeting with the Confirmation Coordinator/Team in the winter/spring of 2019; and
  • Help with the Confirmation Reception (likely February, 2019,
    date TBD).

Some Expectations for Year Two Candidates include:

  • Weekly participation in the Sunday (Saturday evening) Mass;
  • Activie participation in the life of the Church's mission outside of "attending" weekly Mass. This may include attending the monthly Teen Bible Study gatherings, serving in one or more roles in the Sunday liturgy, or volunteering with an organization that serves underserved communities.
  • Attendance at scheduled sacramental preparation classes on Mondays, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., in the School Library plus attending additional LifeTeen sessions or attending LifeTeen every Sunday, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Assumption Teen Center.
  • Attendance at the day-long Confirmation Retreats, Oct. 13, 2018, and Jan. 5, 2019 (site TBD);
  • Demonstration of growth in each of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit;
  • Choosing and communicating with a Sponsor;
  • Attending the three Masses with smaller Confirmation rituals;
  • Completing various forms/documents; and
  • Two "check-in" interviews with a Confirmation team member.
